I have downloaded Peanut and tried it out on an old laptop that kind of
conforms to spec. Not a great experience as even the small version takes up
600Mb which is a fair chunk of the 685Mb we have to play with. Also appears
to be based on RH which never really did work out of the box on IBM laptops
so I might be being a bit unfair there. Also sets up KDE3 by default which
slows things down a bit... Laptop is a 233Mhz with 97Mb ram so if it's
slowish on that it will be slower on the target boxes.
I have had a lot more luck with a SuSE 8.0 base... Minimal install with
selected X packages, IceWM and abiword comes to a grand total of 300Mb...
can't get the fonts to work in abiword at the moment but thats just me
being stupid I suspect.
Anyone else making progress? I still need advice or recommendations for a
small web browser and a spreadsheet program.
