On my way to work did a little cost exercise in Masterton (centre of almost
diplomatic row over SARs!!!).

During the course of this I had a conversation with a very helpful shop
person who freely admitted she didn't know details about the modem!  Luckily
a young fellow happened along and said he couldn't but help overhear our
conversation, and yes, the modem under discussion was hardware and would
support Linux.

It is just another example to me of the tremendously helpful attitude of
people involved with, or using Linux.
