Hi Ricardo,
How quickly do you need to have this machine up and going?
It seems you need just a little more help and that a hand-on approach may be
best for you. I am sure one of the people in the group could help in this
way if you can indicate what area you are from and when would suit.
Otherwise you can continue on the email thread which can be a lengthier
process or
- come to the next meeting with your PC and people can take a first-hand
look with you;
- come to the Installfest on Sunday morning 4th May at Silicon Systems Lt,
Sydney St, Petone.
We want to help, as you can tell. However there are so many variables that
can affect how a PC is installed (thousands of bits of software to select
from) that it is easy to overlook something if you do not know what to look
for, which I think is where you have come to.

Subject: [wellylug] I have installed Linux Mandrake 9.1, Now what?
Hello there
I want to give Linux a try, the problem is that I have
no clue how to start. I installed mandrake 9.1 and
apparently it was successful(thanks to the guy at
Massey's MUSAC who posted me the CDs. Please tell
where I should sent the blank CDs or the beer). The
problem is that I was expecting some sort of program
applications to work on -you know, an office suite, an
internet browser, something!)but there is only this
screen:
local host login: ricardo
[ricardo at localhost ricardo]$
I think I have to type something after $ but what is
it?
Is anyone out there who can meet with me to sort this
out?
Thanks for the cooperation
Ricardo
