Hi
I got a ICH5 based motherboard a while back and have been messing with
linux on it just testing different distros, decided to stick with
debian. Wen't off to compile a kernel to get alsa and the likes.
Debians BF2.4 kernel can mount my s-ata drive in "Compatible Mode" but
fails in "Enhanced Mode".
When I go to use a kernel I compile it fails at root-fs mounting. Ive
selected every option that as far as I know I need Filesystems,
ATA-PIIX, raid so fourth. I checked it out and I need the SCSI_ATA
kernel patches but when I apply them either the patch fails or the
kernel compile fails. Ive tried 2.4.21, 2.5.69, and 2.6.0-test2.
Now im sort of clueless on what to do next and I was wondering if anyone
could point me in the right direction.
Just for the record, basic system specs are as follows:
Asus P4P800 Motherboard
Intel 865PE Northbridge
ICH5R Southbridge (R for raid?)
Pentium-4 B (Northwood Core - 553mhz fsb) CPU
Segate Barracuda V s-ata Disk drive.
VESA compatible Graphics card.

Thanks
