Blimey.
Um, are you running a very old version of debian? Many of the problems
you describe sound extremely odd for any recent Debian version
I would also like to put a nice word in for Libranet. Libranet is based
on Debian, so you can use apt-get to get updates etc, but it is nicely
packaged and supported.
