Which brings up another point. While I'm not familiar with Mandrake's
config files specifically, I would assume that if a DOMAINNAME feild
exists, the HOSTNAME feild shouldn't include it.

Hence:

HOSTNAME=rosesmachine
DOMAINNAME=rosesdomain

rather than:

HOSTNAME=rosesmachine.rosesdomain
DOMAINNAME=rosesdomain

Only thing is I would use something shorter (easier to type :-).
Oh, also I prefer names for boxes that aren't tied to the owner/user
- among other things, you don't give away info when you don't intend
to.
