A definite improvement now.  Now it welcomes me to rose.  However I am 
going to go back and alter that to something different.  Still get the 
message re Gnome looking internet address, so will try  the suggestion 
above.
emacs gave me a bit of bother.  Am I meant to hit enter after each 
typing of CTRL+X etc?

I tried various options, none of which seemed to work and then saw a 
line down the bottom with option of entering y to save which I did, and 
it worked.
Also do I need the gateway numbers?  I suspect they might be to do with 
the install being from a server at work.
