Ufortunately the current solution of inaction will have to continue for
a few more days, as I'm going up to the Uniforum conference (in
Auckland) and won't easily be able to make changes to the mailing list
server today/this week.

Feel free to talk more amongst yourselves if you wish and let me know
the outcome.  I am leaning towards at least putting in spam filtering,
and possibly making posting list-members only (and FWIW I have very little
sympathy for people who want to forge email addresses as ones that don't
exist when posting -- I find it really rather frustrating that one of the
bigger advantages of the Internet email system (that you can just reply
to people) is apparently being surrendered over a "little" spam[0])).

[0] My spam is running at something in the order of 100 spam/day (mostly
    caught by SpamAssassin), which is at least equal to the volume of my
    real mail, so it's not like I'm somehow immune.
