A very good site covering this is
http://www.linuxgames.com/
Some games run well using Wine, such as Diablo II and Jedi Knight II.
Many commercial game shops release the Windows game and then they (or a
third party... remember Loki anyone?) develop a Linux binary you can
download that works with the same game data. Many are available at:
http://www.3ddownloads.com/index.php3?directory=/linuxgames/
Neverwinter Nights - download Linux binaries from
http://nwn.bioware.com/downloads/linuxclient.html
Most Id games have Linux binaries available. Check out
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/
Quake 3:
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3/linux/linuxq3apoint-1.32.x86.run
Return to Castle Wolfenstein - install 1.33 first, then 1.41:
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/wolf/linux/wolf-linux-1.33.x86.run
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/wolf/linux/wolf-linux-update-1.41.x86.run
Unreal Tournament:

Space Tripper is a cool Linux game, check out the demo from:
http://www.pompom.org.uk/
FooBillard probably comes with your distro, an OpenGL SnookerSim:

Of course there's always xmame, the arcade machine emulator. You need to
get ROMs from somewhere though, which is illegal unless you own the game
(which is only likely if you run a game parlour):

If you're serious about Linux gaming, check out TransGaming. You can
subscribe for USD $5 a month, and in return you get to vote for which
games you want them to port, and can download their WineX library (Wine
+ DirectX for Linux) and access to Linux ports of loads of recent games.
