NO! Penguins in general are the favourite animal of Linus, TUX is the only 
penguin that is acclaimed by the Linux community (see above link).

Yes we are at liberty to use whatever symbol we like, but the only point in 
using a penguin (apart from showing sympathy for Linus's favourite animal) 
is because TUX is so widely associated with Linux.  To use another penguin 
image takes us further away from linux - originality would simply give us 
more association with penguins (maybe the odd recognition that it was a NZ 
penguin).
TUX might not be your favourite rendition of a penguin design, or even the 
best looking, but it is pointless to use a penguin that isn't at least 
giving a nodding acknowledgement of TUX. see also http://lwn.net/Gallery/

I do like the idea of the Yellow eyed penguin as with Ilia Pavlenko's logo, 
but I think the yellow eye feathers need to be somewhat less obtrusive, 
narrower - not looking like he's wearing wrap around yellow/gold goggles :-)
