I don't think you are missing anything, except the fact that you don't
*necessarily* get a mailbox with web space. It's a good suggestion
though.
When you register (not buy!) a Domain Name, all you need is two DNS
servers already set up to host it. They could be an ISPs DNS or your
own DNS, or the registrar's.
That buys you nothing to host your website and your email. Most
service providers provide a package that *includes* website space and
mailbox space. However that is by no means 100% true. I, for example,
could provide web space and DNS, but I don't do mailboxes. I could
redirect email to mailboxes elsewhere, and do do that for a lot of my
clients.
What Jamie is saying, I think, is that those people who control
lug.co.nz do not or may not do email. What you are saying, I think, is
that the website hosting service probably does email. This, I think,
is highly likely, but not certain. (I hope I've understood you both
correctly!)
In any case the lug.co.nz people should be able to add an email alias
to point to *any* valid email address, or an MX record to point to a
mail server so it's not a big issue. Either to Jamie's Orcon one or
one specific to wellylug.
Cheers,
Cliff
