[wellylug] Nethack on a laptop

Hello all,

For some reason that I have not yet investigated none of the X-window 
versions of nethack seem to work on my laptop.

I tried the console version and it works fine except that as I am using 
a laptop I can't use the 'keypad' to navigate as switching it on means 
I lose access to some of the 'letter' keys.  

The alternative keys are: yuhjklbn.  I can only assume that some where 
there is a keyboard where these keys make sense.

I have looked in the manual and searched google with no luck (after 
about 3 pages of results I get page after page of crackz, hax and warez 
pages (that'll teach me for using the search term "key").

Has anyone else worked around this problem or know of a solution?

Out of curiosity does anyone know where the keys yuhjklbn came from?  
In the manual they look like they make sense on some kind of keyboard.
