It seems like you havn't coppied the file over to the home directrory.
To check you can type ls, for a list of files in the directory.

I don't know if the renaming of the file could effect it...

The only problem here, is that the rpm dosn't work if it's installed by
a graphical program (This kept me confused for ages...).

Set it to /dev/modem, as that will always be the name of the default
modem.
You could type /sbin/ifup ppp0.
This will try to connect, without using kppp.
