[wellylug] A real newbie needs help - internet connection

Dear all,
 
While considering all the suggestions on the external modem. I'm still preoccupied to try some others sggested by Mr Lynch and Mr Carr:

1. Trying the urpmi results:
 
via terminal (konsole):
 
error of accessing local packages. That's when I tried to install the hsflinmodem which is in cd rom.
 
2.Trying to copy the hsflinmodem driver from the cd mandrake.
 
- I renamed it hsflinmodem.rpm (in the cd) - still unsuccessful;
- with the complete name: hsflinmodem....2.41.Inxbeta...rpm (in cd) and type cd /home/kadim still failed.
 
3. Going to: http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/
At step three, found some command to be typed in the konsole such as ...ftp ....etc. The point here is whether I should be connected to the internet first before putting commands. But that's my main problem.
 
4. Everybody please accept my apology for keep asking....
