Hi Guys,
I'm planning on building the ultimate linux mobile multimedia machine.
Basically I want to build a portable/laptop that handles audio and video
*really* well. It doesn't neccessarily need to be a laptop, as these tend to
have relatively poor quality sound cards, and a reduced video card....but I
wouldn't discount these entirely....And If I can find a 1 / 2 ru rackmount
that does sound stuff, I'd be happy to entertain that.
Anyway, I'm also thinking that Redhat might not be the best way either - for
2 reasons - 1. They've dropped support for MP3 (and I *am* using MP3 in an
legitimate way), 2. I prefer debian.
I'm interested if anyone else has been down this path, and what if any
hassles they came up against (driver support etc).
I suppose MP3 is not essential when you've got OGG, so if anyone has some war
stories about OGG streaming I'd be a keen listener.....
If anyone is doing MPEG4 video - what were the hard parts?
I'm also interested if anyone has messed around with the agnula/demudi debian
audio distro's http://www.demudi.org/main/main.php3 (though things do seem
pretty stale there)
I am happy to receive "boy have I got a deal for you!" emails, but please
email me off list as commercial traffic should not clog the lug.
Cheers
jamie
