Would E-Smith (aka Mitel SME) do what you want?
Its a small business server and each user has their own folder (Information
bay) on the server, but they can't look at anything else
Based on an older version of Red Hat, rock solid reliable and install from
cold in about 15 minutes.
A small workgroup (5 - 10 usrs) would be catered for on a P-III 600 easy.

Maybe, but so far I am not sure which ones.

I do not anything else than joe writing or reading a couple of files access
to /home/joe (no mail, no web, no nothing....). I am not sure if it really
matters in that particular case. If it does, I'll be happy to know.
