[wellylug] Problems with fetchmail

Hello all, 

I have recently begun to have a few problems with fetchmail.  I have
narrowed the problem down but seem to have hit the limits of my linux
knowledge. 

WHAT I HAVE DONE 

Fetchmail used to work perfectly. 
The only things I have done since it worked perfectly are: 
1. removed netenv 
2. installed 'whereami'* 

*as part of this I ended up installing updated versions of debhelper and
debconf from backports.org. 

WHAT IS GOING WRONG 

Fetch-mail doesn't. I connect to the internet, I can browse pages but no
email downloads.  If I su to root and run /etc/init.d/fetchmail restart
it works and continues to work perfectly until I shutdown. 

Last time I had a similar problem it turned out I had messed up my
resolv.conf file but that looks fine to me. 

WHAT LINUX?

Apr 15 18:50:42 smokey fetchmail[689]: couldn't find canonical DNS name of pop3.paradise.net.nz 
Apr 15 18:51:02 smokey fetchmail[689]: couldn't find canonical DNS name of mail.araitanga.com 
Apr 15 18:51:22 smokey fetchmail[689]: POP3 connection to mail.araitanga.com failed: temporary name server error. 

18:51:22 was when I restarted fetchmail, thats where the errors stopped and fetchmail started working again.
