I am simply highly amused by the turn the discussions are taking in
suggesting rules.
Also a little concerned that things are becoming emotively charged on some
threads of discussion.
I enjoy lively discussion and I enjoy the Well Lug as an interest and
because I like using Linux at home and wish I could use it at work as well.
Note I am not suggesting it is for anyone else, this is me personally.
I agree with your post that if an issue is not wanted there are avenues
available to any to stop that discussion.
- Start a flame war and get highly emotive. In my experience this is likely
to achieve only turning off the genuine people, instead of encouraging them.
- Stop commenting and responding to that discussion. As you suggested before
it will starve to death naturally.
- Take it offline and discuss elsewhere.
So far this mailing list has successfully self-managed the issues. I see
nothing to change here as long as the 3 suggestions above are reiterated
from time to time.
As far as the website goes - It is a very professionally run and presented
site and all kudo's to our webmaster - Thank you Jethro!
I failed to pick up the beginning of that discussion so do not want to know
now what started that issue.
Basic rules - nah! Guidelines such as above - maybe if they are needed, but
I see no need to make enforcement of them by removing people etc. And I do
not think anyone else really does either. This was the gist of the
discussion in the January meeting after all - No rules and minimal need to
have oversight or organising committees as required from time to time to
support regular meetings and events such as 'fest's.
Have a great day - I certainly will.

I was not implying that you were rearing the ugly head of "Formalization" /
"Elected Dictatorship"
