I appreciate that you're frustrated, I know that
Linux isn't as mainstream specially when it comes
to newer hardware.
But the thing is, Linux does offer you other goods
than specific hardware. I absolutely love the text
file based configuration, I can administer a headless
server over a 9.6 connection if need be. I don't have
to pay for it. I can get free support on the net (not
that I need that that often). And since I like those
goodies I'm willing to shell out 20 buxx extra and
buy a friggin hardware modem, because it's still going
to save me 250 dollars on the OEM version of XP, which,
legally speaking, dies when the motheboard goes up in
smoke.
Or, to use one of my beloved allegories:
If I know I'm taking a mountain road with potholes
that would swallow some cars hole I'll get a big
Jeep or unimog, not a fancy-couloured sportster.
If I want a sporster, I'll stick to the coastal
roads.
So, kicking up a big fuss about how bad Linux is
because you don't have hardware that works with it
is -at least in my eyes- hardly appropriate. And the
fact that many manufacturers of hardware completely
ignore Linux' exisitence and refuse to co-operate
with kernel developers can hardly be blamed on the
OS.
Cheers,
Andrej
