Exactly - if Linus and the maintainers aren't doing quality control, and
the distro's aren't doing it, then it's left up to the user.
Hell, every time I install a distro I run into at least one problem,
omission or incompatibility which requires a kernel recompile. I dont
mind doing this - I actually take a perverse pleasure in fixing obscure
problems, but I can't imagine the majority of people feel it is 'their
job' to know enough about the kernel to make it work stably and support
their hardware.
Ah well, maybe in 2.6.10 everything will be better....
