it looks like an existing default route is in your routing table already. You 
can either track down how it's getting there and fix that, or add an entry to 
your startup programs to remove it (after, of course, your network card comes 
up). How do do that depends on your distribution.

(I'm guessing that, because you knew how to add the default route manually, 
you are capable of figuring those out :)
