It's in another window (which I guess is an advantage, although I'm not
fond of windows popping up all over the place), and it understands mouse
actions much better. It's also got various classic-gui-editor style
pull down menus and the like which can be handy.
However it requires that you've got an xserver available for it to
display on, which is perhaps not the case if you're using putty to log
into the system in the first place. (There are xservers you can run
under Windows, but it's not _that_ common.)
