The "old-skool" *bold*, /italic/ and _underline_ hardly look
professional, and not everybody understands what they're intended to
mean.

Common knowledge? I personally have no problem reading a page-width of
text. I find 60-70 character wide columns irritating as each line of
text is so short - I'd much rather have a full page width.

I'm not quite sure what your argument is here, but it seems to be
something along the lines of "these people do something that I don't
like, therefore everything they do is wrong!!11one" ... I'll ignore it
because you seem to be making a pretty stupid assumption.

Anyway!

I'm not quite understanding what you're fighting here. Nobody in this
thread is trying to deprive you of your text-only email. Several people
have said that when they sign up for regular mailout-type things, they
WANT THE OPTION of being sent HTML-formatted mail. Not that it should
be html-only, but that the recipient should get to choose.

Personally, I agree. I'd much rather read a message with a bit of
colour and visually appealing formatting than pages upon pages of
black-and-white text.
