Hi WellyLUG,

Although I've been lurking on, and doing the occasional post to WellyLUG
over the past month or so I thought that I should just introduce myself
to the list since it looks like a close-knit group of people.

My name is Wayne Koorts. I live in Cape Town, South Africa at the
moment. Our family is hoping to move to NZ in the near future. I've
been using Linux on-and-off for about 5 years, but so far this year it
has been my primary OS and takes up the biggest part of my hard drive
:-) Gentoo is my distro of choice.

At the moment I belong to the Western Cape Linux User Group (since 2002)
(www.clug.org.za) and the Schools Linux User Group (since January this
year) (www.slug.org.za). I was involved in Operation FreeTux
(http://www.slug.org.za/freetux.php) which was featured on Slashdot, and
I also did the SLUG t-shirt design. I'm very much into 3D graphics and
using Open Source tools for that (Blender, Yafray, Wings 3D, Art of
Illusion). This year I gave a combined CLUG / SLUG talk on Open Source
graphics tools (I went on for 3 hours! :-) and later on gave a workshop
on Blender.

I was a bit nervous as to what the state / uptake of Linux was in NZ,
but I must say I'm very impressed so far. It definitely looks like it
is being taken more seriously there than it is here in SA. I think,
however that it is generally getting taken more seriously lately because
of such big improvements in desktop use and all the noise around
Internet Exploiter bugs / security holes.

I really hope to be an asset to WellyLUG and look forward to meeting you
all on the other side :-)
