[wellylug] Looking for a new distro

I've been very happy with Debian for a long time, and maybe I am just
missing something obvious in The Debian Way, but I think I need to look
for a new distro.

What's happened is this - I'm now looking at running more and more stuff
from upstream. I'm contributing or looking at contributing to GNOME,
mono, x.org, HAL, and possibly even the Aiptek kernel driver.

Now, I know how to handle multiple kernel versions via GRUB, so that is
not an issue. I can have one 'Debian-blessed' kernel that I use most of
the time, and one custom build that I use the rest of the time.
What's less clear to me is how to have multiple X servers, mono
compilers, and GNOME instances on the same Debian box. If there's a
Debian way I'll stick to that (out of inertia).

So - is there a distro that's really, really good for this? Can I do
some magic that makes this all work on Debian? Any suggestions?
