I would use QuickTime Pro in Mac OS X ;) But if you're doing anything 
more serious i'd encourage you the check out 
http://moviefest.org.nz/03/resources.html for (some) linux related 
video resources.

While you're there i'd love to see a Linux based MovieFest entry....
