For cowardly souls like myself, a paid-for warranty does have some advantages.
1) I don't have to ring and threaten the retailer (yes, they should
just repair/replace without a threat, but it doesn't work that way in
practice).
2) If the retailer calls my bluff, I don't have to show up at a small
claims hearing with a carefully prepared case.
It's definitely a compromise to buy such a warranty, but they do have
some value for me.
