Hi,
Just a quick note for subscribers using paradise.net.nz email addresses:
Paradise.Net appears to have firewalled off their primary MX (server
that receives mail) from the Internet -- it's been like that for over a
week. (pop3.paradise.net.nz is listed as priority 10 MX (ie, higher
priority than smtp.paradise.net.nz), but it is not possible to reach the
SMTP port on pop3.paradise.net.nz any longer.)
Since there is a backup MX (smtp.paradise.net.nz - priority 20) the mail
is eventually delivered (after splattering my log files with "connection
timed out" messages), however there is a delay while it tries to reach
the pop3.paradise.net.nz MX a few times before concluding that it has
to use the smtp.paradise.net.nz.
So if any subscribers with paradise.net.nz addresses feel that they're
behind everyone else that's probably why. Unfortunately there's nothing
I can do about it until Paradise decide to put in a more sensible set of
MX information in their DNS records. If the delay bugs you feel free to
ask Paradise why they are still listing a mail server which cannot be
reached as their primary server for receiving mail.
Ewen
