[wellylug] Help mplayer download

I  recently  downloaded  mplayer  for  Redhat9  as  a  plugin  for 
Websites.The  program  downloaded  into  home  folder  as  a  tar.gz 
compression.Tried  extracting  in  fileroller  to  no  avail. Does 
anyone  have  a  complete  script  I  can  type  in  a  terminal  to 
unleash  mplayer  into  my  computer  so  I  am  able  to  view 
Websites.Mplayer  would   not  download  as  a  RPM  file.Why  is  it 
so  difficult  to  get  files/program  downloads  to  automatically
launch  themselves  without  the  hassle.
