[wellylug] VMWare price drop

I've had VMWare 4.5 working with no problems at all with 2.6 ... I don't
recall having any problems with earler versions, but I may have. Note
also that I didn't install the vmware tools - I know some (all?) of the
stuff in the tools package involves kernel modules, so they may have
issues with 2.6.
Personally, I'm in no rush to upgrade to 2.6 - the preemption support is
very nice, but there's a backport patch for that to 2.4. I'm going to
keep to 2.4 on everything I use regularly until 2.6 is a bit more
established and there are more drivers available for it.

I wouldn't bother with VMware if you are running a 2.6 series kernel as
it just appears to crash. Its fine with 2.4 kernels, but I have had no
luck getting it to run with any 2.6 kernels.
If anyone has managed to get it working with a 2.6 kernel I'd be
interested to know how they managed it.
