[wellylug] newbie installation question

yes it is an external modem and connects to a serial port. i have re 
installed mandrake twice in the hope that it would pick it up. maybe hte dse 
modem is hte easiest way to fix this. the kids are starting to look at me 
like i am stupid for not giving them instant internet access.
