The first thing you must do is install the kernel source.

The kernel headers themselves are already installedif memory serves.

Have your installation cds at hand and as root issue 'urpmi kernel-source'
(without the quotes)

I don't think the missing autoconf.h is significant. I don't have the 536
source at hand to check but I think there is something about a fix having
been implemented to fix that particular problem.

All that being said, I became so frustrated trying to get one of those
modems going in my laptop that I finally bit the bullet and went to DSE
and got one of their PCMCIA modem cards - no more problems!!

I think yours is a desktop machine - yes? If so why did you buy a
winmodem? You would be much better off with an external _serial_ modem.
USB modems are still a bit hit and miss too as far as I know.
