I'd suggest vmware if all you need to do is run a few windows apps. 
You can get a 30-day free trial from their site, and the software's
worth the price they're asking.  Alternatively, you can try Bochs
(free, IIRC) or Win4Lin ($99USD).  Win4Lin runs the DOS-based versions
of Windows using the ext2/3 filesystem.  It's really pretty smart how
they do it.  That, and how'd you like to do a TWO MINUTE install of
Win98?  You can with Win4Lin.
