I create one single partition eating up all the space, and I use reiserfs (v3 so
far but I intend to switch to v4 at some point). I no longer see any value in
partitioning space up in a manner which is difficult to change on a workstation.
On servers there are some (but many fewer than there used to be) reasons to
create one or two partitions to prevent worst-case scenarios related to disk
space, but overall I still tend towards as few as I can get away with.

Older systems of course still require the /boot partition at the start of the
disk.

Always use reiser now.
