A mass boycott tends to put the company in risk of going out of business.
Open sourcing intellectual property like a unified driver base (which is a
key component of their business) is not something to be taken on lightly,
and requires a strong position to start with. They are far more likely to
consider open-sourcing their drivers (if at all) if they have significant
market share. You'd be better off deliberately buying pro-Linux video
cards to encourage those companies, than trying to influence Nvidia
through 'negative' feedback. I don't feel too strongly this way, so
feel free to explore alternative arguments.
(For the record, I've used Nvidia binary drivers with Gentoo and Debian
and never had a problem, except with the file size).
