That's probably the best thing to do. Wayne posted a solution earlier, which 
will still apply - you only need to change the arguments slightly for a .bz2 
file rather than a .gz file. Here's the updated commands:

tar -xvjf scribus-package.tar.gz
cd scribus-package-unpacked-dir
./configure
make
make install

The only difference here to what Wayne posted is I changed the -xvzf options 
to -xvjf to unzip through the bzip2 compression tool instead of gzip.
If you're already comfortable with cd'ing around between directories, this 
should be simple. Unless it doesn't work of course...
