The last few months fr2 has been faster for me, but rpm find is the main site,
t'other is a mirror of it.

OK, if you back to the rpm site, search for libstdc++.so.6 you'll be able to
download the rpm that contains this. Search for libstdc++.so.6, system mandrake
& you can download libstdc++6-3.4.1-3mdk.i586.rpm. Install this before the
others to keep them happy.
I think you'll find this particular one came with your copy of Mandrake as
well, so it should be on your CD, if you open "packages/install" from the
Mandrake control centre, search for libstdc++.so.6 & install what it gives you,
it should save the download.
This is dependency hell- each new package you need will tell you about others
it needs first... the worst possibility is a recursive dependency, when
packages need each other installed first. That can get interesting :-)
It sounds as though when you installed Mandrake you did a bare minimum install,
with even basic libraries not installed, so you get asked for them now. If they
had been installed initially when you installed Mandrake, you'll find it would
have worked fine now.
As a supposedly self contained deskto distro, the standard basic Mandrake
install will not include many files you are likely to need to install new
software from off the CD's. This also applies (as I've just found) to SUSE 9.1
Personal. If even libstdc++ wasn't installed, you'll run into this sort of
problem more often than otherwise.
If you install more than you think you'll need at first, there may be some
bloat & overhead coz of the exraneous stuff, but at least it is there if (when)
you need some of it later. IMHO, a bit of bloat is the lesser of the two evils,
esp when starting out. If you don't use something, it doen't matter, but if you
need it later, it is easier to have ith there waiting :-)
Others may think differently- you'll soon know enough to decide for
yourself....
Cheers....
Brent
