Up2date is rh's Windows Update ;-)

To install/retrieve packages you use yum

Eg yum install httpd

Atleast you do on RHEL and RHAS

OK,

I'm a bit of a redhat greenhorn, but can some explain me this...

up2date - that's basically RH's package update mechanism for patches and
and security fixes right? It's not a general purpose new package
acquistion system is it? Are there any cases where it is?

Shouldn't a fresh redhat install have all packages located somewhere on
disk (compact or otherwise?)
