Hi there...

I'm afraid it's a bit tricky doing diagnostics just now.

The machine is in the boot of my car (L1 ET House), and the root password is in the head of said son (security rules!) currently at college in Upper Hutt.

Doubtless we can get it all together at the LUG meeting, but thanks for the offer.

The mouse is a Gigabyte Optical Wheel mouse and was on USB at the time of install (and the installer didn't give the choice of USB, only PS/2 & Serial), and has since been moved to PS/2 with no discernable effect.

The video card is a Pine AGP SiS 315 32Mb Graphics Card, chipset uncertain to my knowledge. We took the proffered Nvidia option.
