Given Ian's recent quote that every copy of Ubuntu used counts against Debian,
I don't see how you can claim that!!

I still see Debian as a great distro, but I don't think that as it comes it is
the best for novices, and I disagree with the holier than thou attitude to non
OS software. I prefer an approach which makes everything easy for the user, so
proprietary graphics & multimedia support, etc, is provided automagically,
instead of being treated as an abomination, contaminating the purity of The One
True Linux!

But I'm mainly about using Linux to let me use my applications, so whatever
works is fine by me :-)

However for ease of use/general user friendliness, to be honest I still prefer
Mandrake & SuSE. (Though (K)ubuntu may address some of that, I haven't tried
it)

Given the work going on by some Ubuntu users & the DebianGIS project I may yet
stick with my less preferred OS though, simply to have better access to my
applications :-)

You will be pleased (I think) by a soon to be released Linux initiative in NZ.
But I've agreed to keep it quiet for now, so this is really just a bit of
unnecessary titilation....

Cheers :-)
