Well I finished my eval of FC3 on my laptop, everything worked OK but
not well enough to keep so I've gone back to Ubuntu but trying the kde
variant Kubuntu this time. A strange thing happened when I
re-partitioned the hard drive. This laptop has a 4.3 GB HDD but it
seems to have grown to about 4.87 GB. I think some reserved space
somehow got released.
Partitions under FC3:
boot .102
/ 3.9
swap .377
Total: 4.379
Partitions under Kubuntu:
/ 4.0
swap .871
Total: 4.871
This caught me a bit by surprise when I was installing kubuntu and I
made the swap bigger than it needs to be. I may try booting a live CD
with qtparted and shifting some of that half gig I've gained onto the
root. I'm sure I could get the partitions back to their original state
if I loaded the laptops win98 restore CD before re-installing Kubuntu
but then I may as well use this extra space (as long as it's real and
not somehow being mis-reported).
