AFAIK us.debian.org is a round robin DNS of a bunch of US based servers,
rather than an "official" mirror; ie it's no more official than the rest
of the mirrors, and a bit more pot-luck as to which one you get.

Anyway I imagine all of this is to do with ftp-master.debian.org being
in transit until very recently:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/07/msg00018.html

I suspect that it'll take a couple more days before all the mirrors
catch up again.  (Sarge/Woody/etc are okay, because they're static;
unstable is, well, unstable -- which means you can't always install from
it, upgrade to it.)

FWIW,

deb http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/debian unstable main contrib non-free

appears to have mostly caught up now, at least for the minimal subset
of packages I have on my test unstable machine (it's more caught up than
the mirror at Citylink for instance). Now that ftp-master is back, the
other mirrors should catch up soon. Then there'll just be the breakages
caused by x.org, gcc, etc updates to cause problems.
