Have you attempted the connection on more than one occasion? And making
lots of attempts? I connect to Paradise via dialup and kppp, with a DSE
PCMCIA modem. But quite often over the last few months I've had failed
logins, for no apparent reason. Sometimes KPP reports a login failure -
as in wrong username/login; sometimes it just times out. I suspect some
dodgy modems at the Paradise end, but have no direct evidence for this
supposition other than the fact that mostly it works but sometimes it
doesn't. The most annoying experience is when it fails and I'm using
hotel/motel phone lines where I'm charged exorbitantly per call. But I
must add I haven't had a problem in the last couple of weeks.
But the settings I use are just all the KPPP defaults I think. No
script, PAP/CHAP authentication. So it *should* work, if the modem is
set up properly.
Ah, one other thing I remember - I had to turn off hardware flow control
with this modem. Only to get uploads working properly, not to correct
connection failures. But it might be worth a try.
