Somebody has to pay for the luxury of having a PABX with telephones in
every bedroom of the house just so you can make the occasional telephone
call. How many houses do you know that have that sort of facility?

If you don't like the charges, you could always go and find an internet
cafe. Oh yeah - those are even more expensive.

Remember - a hotel is merely a large many-roomed house with servants and
paying guests.

Out of what a guest pays per night, about a third of that covers the cost
of servicing the room, and repairs that need to be done after people check
out, etc. And then there's the cost of providing staff to take
reservations and to check guests in and out. And then there's the capital
cost of providing studio suites all with ensuites, self-contained
apartments complete with kitchens and laundry facilities, and the public
facilities of the hotel. And then there are things such as the hidden
administrative costs associated with your stay.

And all that does not include the cost of actually providing and running
professional kitchens, dining rooms, bars, room service, and concierge.

And now hotels are increasingly having to provide broadband access points
inside the bedrooms as well.

Hotels generally provide many services that other forms of accomodation
do not provide, and doing so costs more than most people think, and
considerably more to run than motels.

If you object to the cost of hiring private communications facilities,
then perhaps you simply should not use them.

Kind regards
