It does seem you do enjoy Flaming for the sake of it, David.
I know that I quite regularly stay in Hotels (etc) for work purposes; Work
gives me an allowance toward Accomodation and Meals, but doesn't cover
Internet Access. My personal financial situation being as screwed as it
is (What was a dual-income-no-kids situation becoming a
single-income-1-kid situation) I don't have the money to waste. Thus when
I dialup I mentally calculate the cost for _that call_ and not for the 3
or 4 others required to get out!!
So I can understand the original posters frustration at being chopped off
for no apparrent reason. Biting his head off achieves nothing except to
make yourself look like flame throwing zealout, unfortunately. (One gets
the idea you have a vaguely related bee in your bonnet from elsewhere that
tied in nicely?)
Anycase I have on the whole decided that dialup is to be expected to be
flakey, and depending on where you are, alternatives are usually feasible
- regardless of their cost. In wellington I've found cafenet a boon,
especially as I can access it from the foyer of the hotel I tend to use -
thus eliminating the 60c/minute up to a max of $25/day fee they charge for
their in-house broadband, as well as their per-minute costs for
phonecalls...
Cheers
Mark.
