Doh!  Well, that will teach me to post when fuelled by Christmas sherry ;)
I neglected to put the 'not' between 'are' and 'fair' in that statement.  I was
actually agreeing with the original poster - hotel call/data charges ARE expensive.
As this seems to have become a topic, I'll just add that ironically, hotels in
NZ may actually provide commensurately 'better value' compared to those in the
US or UK, but are still way too dear.
