After reading the emails about the external modem I saw something of
interest. I have a dynalink external modem that only manages a 36k
connection speed which uses a serial cable, the cable that came with it had
a plug that did not match any on my computer so I brought a cheap converter
from DSE.

What I thought could be interesting from the emails was the mention of a
fully compatable modem cable, could the cheap converter be damaging
performance?
