A list of known external (ie. serial) Winmodems can be found at

In this case the Intel 566x is listed as a full hardware external modem
which according to
http://www.devidal.tv/~chris/winmodems/intel/intel_565x_566x.html should
work with the standard Linux kernel and the setserial command.
