Freedesktop specification for the menus should help out here cross-distro and
cross-wm/de :)

Personally I don't use the menus all that much, all the common applications can
be opened via launchers in the gnome-panel or via keys on my keyboard.
Well, that and most applications I use load when I login anyway!

When I played around with gentoo for a bit it seemed 'ok' and from what I've
picked up it does what it's supposed to do fairly well.
