I'm assuming that by SMB you mean HTTP? SMB is a LAN-centric file
transfer protocol. HTTP is what the web uses. You don't want SMB
working across an untrusted network. You want to use Apache.

Apache. Secure FTP.

Find out about Apache, how to set it up, how to use SFTP. It'll take a while.
